David C. Webb, ESQ. offers ethical collaborative law services in Brunswick, ME. Collaborative divorce is an alternative to the traditional, adversarial Court process. It is intended as a non-adversarial process. Each party has separate and independent counsel, trained and committed to the collaborative process. In a collaborative divorce the parties and their lawyers agree that the lawyers will not be able to represent the parties in litigation if they are unable to settle their case. The parties commit to sharing all information openly and fairly. They may share third-party experts, such as accountants or child therapists. They may, but do not have to, employ a mediator and/or a collaborative coach to help facilitate reaching the goal, which is defined as an agreed-upon settlement, and not "winning" in court.
